Under cold and dreary Tuesday night lights at James Buchanan High School, West Perry High School’s girls soccer team grabbed the win 4-0.
James Buchanan gave up two goals in the first quarter of the game, but the defense continued to guard the field. The ball seesawed constantly up and down the field, and it kept the fans yelling. By the persistent alternating possession, it forced the offensive and defensive players to work in conjunction. Goalie, Izzy Hoffeditz (12), saved many balls from going into the net throughout the game, and she bounced right back each time by punting the ball all the way past the midfield line.
“In the first half we gave up those two easy goals that we shouldn’t have, but I think we did a lot better than [when] we played them last year. It was good competition,” Hoffeditz said.
At halftime, the score remained 2-0, although West Perry quickly scored another goal after the game resumed. Shortly after, a player from West Perry got injured and had to be carried off the field. Fortunately, no one from James Buchanan got injured during Tuesday night’s game, but there were a few players benched due to previous injuries. Out of the game caused by an earlier concussion, Madi Sloss (10) cheered on her teammates from the sidelines.
“I’m injured so I can’t play, but I think we played hard,” Sloss said.
With only a few minutes to spare, West Perry scored the final goal, making the score 4-0. The clock eventually ran out, and James Buchanan ended their chilly night with a loss. Kimmie Powers (12) wrapped herself in a blanket as she left the field. “I’m so cold,” Powers said.
