The James Buchanan volleyball team traveled to Elizabethtown College to support former standout volleyball player Campbelle Dayley. Campbelle graduated last year and went to Elizabethtown to pursue volleyball and track and field as well as study psychology. As a focused, hardworking, and dedicated person, Campbelle reflected that in her work ethic and showed that to her former teammates.
“Her concentration when she’s playing volleyball, you can tell when watching her that she zones in on what she’s doing and doesn’t let anything else around her bother her. On top of that just her personality as a whole, Campbelle is a very dedicated person to any task she does, she likes to complete the task she starts,” Kaelin Fouty said.
You can be a role model without realizing how much you have impacted someone. Showing up without being asked, can make a big difference and give you a different view of the situation. The team repaid Campbelle by deciding to leave school early to support her. Campbelle continues to be surrounded by people who love and support.
“Campbelle is a good role model so we wanted to support her like she always did for us,” Ashlyn Hershey said.
Campbelle continues to inspire and teach the volleyball team without being there. Her precious technique and ability to handle her emotion continues to be noticed by the Lady Rockets. Staying calm when you are under alot of pressure can be difficult to do. By staying calm and giving it her all it inspires the girls to work as hard as her so they can one day be college athletes.
“Technique and how she stays focused and calm,” Maddie Rice said.
After the game, the volleyball team was excited to go down to the court to talk to Campbelle. Despite their loss joy still surrounded Campbelle from the girls and her family. They say sports can create everlasting bonds and in this case that can be proven true.
“We were excited to see her and took a picture with her,” Avery Brindle said.
