The beloved dance studio adored by countless members of the Mercersburg Township went through a huge change this past summer. The previous owners, Dicey and Sam Higgins decided to hand over the torch to a previous dancer and teacher, Andrea Chilcote and her husband, Wyatt Chilcote. “Getting to turn my home studio into my own has been such a huge blessing, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for Sanctuary Dance Company!” Andrea said.
Over the summer, the new owners worked diligently to create their vision of the new studio come to life. They also worked with Dicey and Sam Higgins as they transferred the studio from MDSD to SDC.
“So far, being a business owner has involved a lot of sacrifice for both myself and my family. It has involved six-day work weeks, many nights with little sleep, and workloads that are sometimes difficult to handle,” Andrea said. Although this transition has been tough, the outcome could not be more rewarding and fulfilling.
In order to create a more smooth transition, Andrea and Wyatt decided to keep the curriculum and teaching style relatively similar to the previous. “In the coming years, my goal is to also customize and restructure the current class curriculums in order to make sure we stay up to date in providing the highest quality dance education for our students,” Andrea said. Stay tuned for any more changes over the course of the new year.
As the couple embarks on their new journey together, the support from the community, friends, and family allows them to push through any hardships that come their way. “At Sanctuary Dance Company, it is our mission to “Teach Dance. Love People. Share
Jesus,” Andrea said.
