The beloved dance studio adored by countless members of the Mercersburg Township went through a huge change this past summer. The previous owners, Dicey and Sam Higgins decided to hand over the torch to a previous dancer and teacher, Andrea Chilcote and her husband, Wyatt Chilcote. “Getting to turn my home studio into my own has been such a huge blessing, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for Sanctuary Dance Company!” Andrea said.

Over the summer, the new owners worked diligently to create their vision of the new studio come to life. They also worked with Dicey and Sam Higgins as they transferred the studio from MDSD to SDC.

“So far, being a business owner has involved a lot of sacrifice for both myself and my family. It has involved six-day work weeks, many nights with little sleep, and workloads that are sometimes difficult to handle,” Andrea said. Although this transition has been tough, the outcome could not be more rewarding and fulfilling.

In order to create a more smooth transition, Andrea and Wyatt decided to keep the curriculum and teaching style relatively similar to the previous. “In the coming years, my goal is to also customize and restructure the current class curriculums in order to make sure we stay up to date in providing the highest quality dance education for our students,” Andrea said. Stay tuned for any more changes over the course of the new year.

As the couple embarks on their new journey together, the support from the community, friends, and family allows them to push through any hardships that come their way. “At Sanctuary Dance Company, it is our mission to “Teach Dance. Love People. Share

Jesus,” Andrea said.

Nikki Pence, Staff Editor
Written by Lainey McCulloh Joining journalism a few weeks into the 2022 school year, Nicolette Pence, or as many know her Nikki, took an interest in the photography portion of the class. She did many extra curricular activities such as bocce ball, tennis, and dance. However, journalism was another way that she could be involved with our school. Joining journalism was a way for Nikki to really interact with everyone in the school. She is very proud of the pictures that she takes, not only for school, but for herself,”I love taking quality pictures and getting to show my friends,” said Pence. When not doing dance, tennis, bocce ball, or journalism, Nikki is hanging out with her friends, going all out with big plans for a big day.  Nikki is a very passionate person, doing everything the best that she can, including her school work. She ranked 4th in her class for the 2022-2023 school year and took many honors and AP classes. Through all of the hardships of school, her mom has been helping her along. Nikki considers her mom to be a very inspirational figure in her life, helping her do almost anything,”She’s kind of done everything for me and done everything with me,” Pence said. As she continues to stick with journalism, Nikki will use her pride and passion to capture the best photos possible in order to tell a deep and meaningful story.
