The 2025 PIAA District 2 Track and Field Championships kicked off under perfect weather conditions at Scranton Memorial Stadium on May 12. While uncertainty looms over Day Two due to weather forecasts, the opening day delivered an exciting array of victories, state qualifiers, and standout performances. Here’s your full recap from Day One:
🥇 AA Boys Team Standings (7 Events Scored)
1. Mid Valley – 49.25
2. Dunmore – 35
3. Elk Lake – 32

Mid Valley dominated the field with seven Spartans reaching the podium. Gavin Rapoch earned gold in the Javelin (163-03.00), while Jakob Lesher took first in the High Jump (6-03.00), both qualifying for states.
Dunmore’s Josh Dudick and Carter Sload also qualified in High Jump, along with their teammate Cole Fangio, who clocked 41.00 seconds in the 300 Meter Hurdles to secure his state berth.
In the 3200 Meter Run, Kendel Jones of Elk Lake won gold in 9:27.16. Avery Ronchi (Lackawanna Trail) and Matthew Repecki (Mid Valley) also advanced to states.
Hayden Mundrake won the Discus with a throw of 149-10.00, while Brayden Rose topped the Long Jump at 21-05.75.
Lake-Lehman’s 4×800 Relay team (Stephen Martin, Nicco Diana, Finn Cronin, Bodhi Cronin) grabbed gold with an 8:08.65 finish, qualifying for states.
🥇 AA Girls Team Standings (7 Events Scored)
1. Lakeland – 60.50
2. Lake-Lehman – 41.50
3. Western Wayne – 32.50
4. Mid Valley – 28
5. Elk Lake – 26
Lakeland’s Lady Chiefs built an early lead with standout wins. Naomi Rude cleared 5-00.00 in the High Jump to qualify for states, while Kaylyn Davis won the Javelin (128-01.00) and placed second in the 300 Meter Hurdles (47.06), both state-qualifying performances.
Natalie Talluto captured gold in the 300 Hurdles with a 45.49-second run and will compete in the 100 Meter Dash and 100 Meter Hurdles finals on Day Two.
Gianna Tewksbury earned a state berth in the Discus Throw (124-01.00), and Sophia Lenza of Lake-Lehman took first in the Long Jump (16-08.00). The Lake-Lehman 4×800 Relay team also claimed gold in 9:50.58.
Annika Von Ahnen rounded out the day with a 3,200 Meter victory and state qualification, finishing in 11:43.21.

Hazleton Area earned two golds and sent multiple athletes to states. Their 4×800 Relay squad (Owen Pollock, Franklin Ritz, Gavin Adams, Christian Matos) led the charge, followed by Kevin Lucas, who won the Triple Jump (45-08.25).
Cole West (North Pocono) also advanced in Triple Jump (40-07.50), while Tommy Fiorelli (Valley View) secured gold in Shot Put with a 52-01.00 throw.
Jhaven Sims-Pagan (Scranton) qualified in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a first-place time of 40.61 seconds.
Mason Staude cruised to a 15-second victory in the 3200 Meter Run, clocking 9:51.14, and Darren Seiwell (Hazleton) cleared 13-09.00 to win Pole Vault.

1. Dallas – 43
2. Abington Heights – 39.33
3. Delaware Valley – 28
4. Wyoming Area – 26
5. Crestwood – 21.33
Dallas dominated with three gold medalists. Morgan Langdon took the Shot Put (38-00.00), Madison Hedglin won the 3200 Meter Run (10:44.58), and Julia Natitus led the 300 Meter Hurdles (43.00).
Ella McKernan (Wyoming Area) joined Natitus at states with a runner-up time of 46.12. Hedglin will compete with Katie Kozich (10:55.93) and Anna Pucilowski (10:58.62) at Shippensburg.
Abington Heights won the 4×800 Relay (Marguerite Coleman, Erin Bartell, Reese Morgan, Calli Gillboy) in 9:29.45.
The Triple Jump produced four state qualifiers:
- Nevaeh Baran (Nanticoke) – 40-04.00
- Tomara Seid (Abington Heights) – 38-08.50
- Taylor Gashi (Wyoming Area) – 37-05.00
- Sophia Shults (Hazleton) – 36-10.00
In the Pole Vault, both Tomara Seid and Liliana Coe (Delaware Valley) cleared 12-00.00, but Coe took gold with fewer misses.
