CHAMBERSBURG, PA — A Chambersburg woman is facing multiple felony charges tied to a string of retail thefts and smuggling contraband into the Franklin County Jail. Authorities say Brittney Rashea Statler has been charged in five separate criminal cases, stemming from repeated theft incidents and a controlled substance violation while in custody.
Statler was arraigned for five felony retail theft charges related to incidents on January 28, 2025, and is facing additional charges for separate thefts on February 2, April 27, and an attempted theft on May 1. On May 5, 2025, she was also charged with felony possession of contraband after corrections officers found drug paraphernalia during a search at Franklin County Jail.
Her total bail is set at $75,001, and she remains incarcerated at the Franklin County Jail.
Timeline of Theft Incidents
The Chambersburg Police Department (CPD) was first alerted on March 17 about a series of thefts involving a woman at the Target on Norland Avenue. Investigators say the suspect—later identified as Statler—had visited the store four times, stealing nearly $791 worth of merchandise.
January 28, 2025
Statler allegedly entered the store, gathered clothing, and entered the fitting room. She exited carrying fewer items and a visibly fuller large black tote. Police say she left with $236 in stolen merchandise without paying.
February 24, 2025
Statler allegedly took two video game controllers and a headset into the fitting room. She left with just one controller, valued at $199.99, leaving the rest behind.
March 5, 2025
CPD say Statler took several items, including four wired Xbox controllers, into the fitting room. Security footage shows her leaving with a tote bag and no controllers in hand. An empty controller box was later found in the fitting room. The stolen goods were valued at $142.96.
March 6, 2025
Using a similar method, Statler allegedly broke a peg board to remove an Xbox controller. She then exited the store with the controller ($199.99) and two t-shirts ($19.49), police said.
March 15, 2025
Statler reportedly targeted the ULTA section of the same Target store. She left with $214.99 in merchandise, again bypassing checkout and dropping other items at guest services before exiting.
CPD confirmed that Statler has six prior retail theft convictions, making these recent incidents her seventh offense and beyond.
Additional Charges and Jail Contraband
Statler was later charged with additional thefts that occurred on February 2 and April 27. These cases are awaiting preliminary hearings, and specific details have not yet been released.
On May 1, Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) responded to a reported theft at a Dollar General on Philadelphia Avenue in Greene Township. Statler allegedly tried to leave the store with a purse full of unpaid hygiene products and beverages, but fled the scene before being apprehended later on an unrelated charge.
Following her arrest, Statler was taken to Franklin County Jail. During intake, corrections officers found a black pipe, a pen, and a lighter on her person. PSP identified the pipe as a crack cocaine pipe, which Statler reportedly admitted to owning.
Statler remains in custody, unable to post her $75,001 bail.
