Centre County, PA (May 9, 2025) — A Bellefonte man, Matthew Davis, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for setting fire to a relative’s house while she was inside. In a court hearing held on Friday, Davis was sentenced to 11.5 to 40 years behind bars for his actions.
Davis, who had previously faced charges of attempted murder and arson, entered guilty pleas to charges of arson and attempted aggravated assault just weeks before his sentencing.
The incident occurred in July 2023 when, during a heated altercation with a family member, Davis placed a gas tank in a vehicle and set it on fire. The flames quickly spread to a home in Spring Township, where the relative was inside at the time. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the blaze, but the destructive consequences of the act were severe.
Davis will now spend a significant portion of his life behind bars, facing the consequences of his dangerous and reckless actions.
