Coroner Releases Report on Baby Found Buried in Marietta Backyard

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has released the official report on the remains of a baby boy discovered buried in a Marietta backyard. The report cites premature fetal death as the cause of death and confirms the fetus was nearly 21 weeks gestational age.

Background of the Case
The investigation began on March 6, 2025, when police were alerted to a possible buried fetus on a property located on Village Square Drive in East Donegal Township. Authorities responded and noted an area of disturbed soil, which led to further examination.

Fetal Remains Recovered
Investigators conducted a probe search, which confirmed the presence of a potential grave. Upon excavation, human fetal remains were found and transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further analysis.

Autopsy and Findings
An autopsy was conducted on March 10. According to the coroner’s report, the fetus was 20 weeks and 6 days old at the time of death. The baby was identified as male, and the cause of death was confirmed to be premature fetal death. However, the manner of death was ruled as undetermined.

Connection to Failed Abortion
According to police, the remains are believed to be connected to a failed abortion attempt. A search warrant revealed that the fetus may have still shown signs of movement when it was buried, raising further questions about the circumstances surrounding the case.

Authorities continue to investigate.
