Residents in western and central Pennsylvania who receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits may be eligible for food replacement due to losses from recent storm-related power outages.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) is urging affected individuals to act quickly. The current deadline to apply for replacement SNAP benefits is this Friday. However, Governor Josh Shapiro has requested an extension to give residents more time to recover and apply.

“The last thing you need to worry about when recovering from a storm is being unable to eat,” said DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh. “If you’re a SNAP recipient and lost food because of a power outage, help is available right now. Please contact your local County Assistance Office as soon as possible to request replacement benefits.”

This support aims to ease the burden on families recovering from the aftermath of last week’s severe weather. DHS continues to monitor the situation and provide resources to those in need.
