A mother and son from Staten Island, New York, have been arrested in connection with a deadly street-racing crash in New Jersey that claimed the life of one passenger and seriously injured another. Vilma Vneshta, 42, and her son, Alvi Limani, 20, were arrested on July 17 in Miami after allegedly attempting to flee the country.
They were detained as part of an ongoing investigation into the fatal crash that occurred on June 29 on the Garden State Parkway.
According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, Limani was driving a BMW X3 recklessly as part of an illegal street race, colliding with two other vehicles.
This caused Limani’s passengers to be ejected from the vehicle, with 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj tragically losing his life and another 21-year-old passenger suffering serious injuries.
Crash Details and Alleged Attempts to Flee
The crash occurred during a high-speed street race on the Garden State Parkway, a dangerous and illegal activity that authorities believe led to the deadly outcome.
After the accident, Emily Harrington, 19, another passenger in Limani’s vehicle, reportedly fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle with Limani. She was later arrested and charged with hindering, obstruction, and conspiracy to endanger another.
The investigation also revealed that another driver, 23-year-old Jeter Ogando, was involved in the race in a BMW M5. Ogando was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, endangering another, and assault by auto.
Following the crash, Limani and his mother allegedly flew to Miami in an attempt to escape the legal consequences of the fatal incident. They were apprehended by authorities on July 17 as they attempted to flee the United States. The arrest occurred near Miami, and the pair was extradited back to New Jersey for further proceedings.
Arrest and Charges
Vneshta, who was reportedly assisting her son in evading authorities, was charged with hindering justice. Limani faces a series of serious charges, including aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, causing death while driving with a suspended license, multiple counts of endangering victims, tampering with public records, hindering justice, and assault by auto.
The pair’s extradition was caught on camera by a TikTok user, who filmed them deplaning in New Jersey as law enforcement vehicles surrounded the aircraft.
Court Appearance Scheduled
The four suspects involved in the crash — Limani, Vneshta, Ogando, and Harrington — are scheduled to appear in court on August 28. The case has brought attention to the dangers of illegal street racing and the potential for severe legal consequences.
This tragic event highlights the risks associated with reckless driving and street racing, as well as the serious charges that can result from such dangerous behavior.
