Dad-to-be Pete Davidson is already thinking about the future and how he will share his career milestones with his upcoming bundle of joy.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 31-year-old comedian, who is expecting a baby with girlfriend, model Elsie Hewitt, opened up about the first project he plans to share with his child.
“I haven’t really thought about it yet. I know I’ll show Dog Man, that’s for sure,” he says, referring to the 2025 animated film based on the popular children’s book series by Dav Pilkey.
Davidson voices the character of Petey the Cat, a feline supervillain, in the animated comedy-action movie, which is slated for release in theaters on January 31.
Reflecting on Parenthood
Davidson and Hewitt, 29, recently had a special moment on the red carpet together, where the comedian shared a heartwarming thought: “We were like, ‘Oh, wow, the baby will be like, ‘I was in there [during the event].'”
Hewitt confirmed her pregnancy on July 16, sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram that included a series of photos and videos documenting the couple’s journey into parenthood.
One photo showed Hewitt sitting on Davidson’s lap, her hands resting on her baby bump, while a video offered a glimpse of the ultrasound.
Excitement for Fatherhood
After the pregnancy announcement, a source shared with PEOPLE that Davidson was “so excited” to become a father. “They’re both very nurturing people and are very, very happy together and to be starting a family,” the insider said.
Davidson has expressed how thrilled he is to step into fatherhood. In an interview at the New York City premiere of his film The Home on July 22, he told E! News, “I’m very lucky and very, very happy.” He went on to share that becoming a dad would allow him to give his child “the childhood I didn’t have.”
Shifting Priorities
Davidson also shared his emotional response when he first learned about the pregnancy. “I was like, ‘Oh wow, what I do is just a job,’” he recalled. The news made him realize that his happiness shouldn’t be based on his career, bringing him a new sense of calmness and perspective. “Now I have someone to do it for.”
Davidson’s friends have been equally excited about the news, with one source telling PEOPLE, “They all just have been like, ‘You’re going to be great at this. It’s the best thing you’ll ever do in your life.’”
As Davidson eagerly prepares for his new role as a father, he is already reflecting on how this new chapter in life will reshape his priorities and bring him even more joy.
