Maluma, the 31-year-old Colombian singer, made headlines over the weekend for stopping his concert in Mexico City to scold a mother who brought a young child to the performance without ear protection.
During the show, Maluma noticed the baby in the crowd and paused his performance to address the situation. “With all due respect… how old are they?” Maluma asked the mother in Spanish.
When she responded that the child was around one year old, the singer raised his concerns about the safety of bringing such a young child to a concert with loud music.
“Do you think it’s a good idea to bring a 1-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are this f—— high?” he questioned, expressing concern for the baby’s well-being. “Where is the sound this loud? That baby doesn’t even know what it’s doing here.”
Maluma then issued a plea to the mother: “Next time, protect their ears or something. For real. It’s heavy. It’s your responsibility,” he added. “You’re waving them around like they’re a toy. That baby doesn’t want to be there, for real.”
He concluded the interaction by offering advice from his own experience as a new father: “I’m telling you with all love and respect, now that I’m a father… would never bring them to a concert. For the next time, be a bit more aware.”
Maluma recently welcomed his first child, a daughter named Paris Londoño Gomez, in March 2024, with his girlfriend Susana Gomez. The couple shared the news on social media, expressing their joy over the birth.
Since becoming a father, Maluma has been open about how fatherhood has changed him. “Everything changed. And I love it,” he told Allure in an interview earlier in 2024. “Now, I wake up every day with the desire to conquer the world. I know I have to f—— kill it.”
He added that he strives to be a role model for his daughter, saying, “For Paris, nothing is impossible. You have to lead by example.”
Maluma’s concert in Mexico City was part of the final leg of his “+Pretty +Dirty World Tour,” which will conclude on August 23 in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The incident highlights the importance of protecting young children from excessive noise, especially at live events, and serves as a reminder for parents to be mindful of their child’s safety in such environments.
