In a shocking incident from St. Louis, Missouri, a 61-year-old man has been charged with multiple crimes, including kidnapping, sexual assault, and attacking people with brass knuckles — all within just two days.
What Happened in Tower Grove Park?
On August 1st, Austin Fitzgerald allegedly approached two women from behind at Tower Grove Park with what looked like a black pistol. He told them, “You two are coming with me.” According to police documents, he grabbed one woman by the arm. When she resisted and triggered her car alarm while shouting for help, the situation took a disturbing turn.
Fitzgerald reportedly forced the other woman into his own car. Once inside, he is accused of sexually assaulting her by removing her shirt, groping her, and threatening further harm. He also took her purse and demanded money, saying he would take her “back to his hood.”
Thankfully, the woman inside his car managed to escape by jumping into a witness’s vehicle. That witness had also recorded the incident on their phone, which was later given to the police.
Multiple bystanders supported the victims’ version of events. When officers arrived, both women were found shaken and crying, and they were taken to the hospital for help.
The Violence Continued the Next Day
Just one day later, on August 2nd, Fitzgerald allegedly returned to the same park and attacked four more people who were sitting on a bench. He is said to have punched them in the head and chest using brass knuckles. When others tried to stop him, he bit another person, leaving a visible bruise and teeth marks.
Park rangers responded quickly and detained Fitzgerald until police arrived. They also recovered the brass knuckles used in the attack. He was later booked into the St. Louis City Justice Center.
Victims Identified the Attacker
The women who were attacked on August 1st later confirmed Fitzgerald’s identity through a police photo lineup. According to the investigating detective, Fitzgerald poses a serious threat to the public, as he continued to harm others just a day after the first incident.
Fitzgerald now faces 14 charges, including kidnapping, sexual abuse, assault, and illegal use of a weapon. He has been ordered to remain in jail without bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
This frightening case highlights the importance of quick action from witnesses and police in preventing further harm. The bravery shown by the victims and those who helped them played a key role in catching the suspect.
With court proceedings underway, the focus is now on ensuring justice for the victims and the safety of the community.
