Kelly Clarkson Postpones Las Vegas Residency to Support Ill Ex-Husband and Focus on Family

Kelly Clarkson is putting family first, announcing that she will be postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas residency to focus on her children.

The 41-year-old singer-songwriter shared on Instagram on August 6 that her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, is ill, and she needs to be there for their two kids, River, 10, and Remington, 8.

Postponing Residency for Family

In a heartfelt statement, Clarkson explained her decision to delay her upcoming performances in Las Vegas, expressing her desire to be fully present for her children during this challenging time.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” Clarkson wrote. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

Clarkson went on to apologize to fans who had purchased tickets for the shows, expressing deep gratitude for their understanding and support. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,” she added.

Background on Clarkson’s Divorce

Clarkson and Blackstock, who were married for seven years, split in June 2020, and their divorce was finalized in 2022. Throughout their marriage, they welcomed two children—daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander.

In a January 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Clarkson described her divorce as “extraordinarily hard.” She shared how the emotional journey has impacted her, adding, “You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming,” referencing her album Chemistry, which explored her personal struggles.

Rare Comments on Co-Parenting

Clarkson has rarely spoken about her relationship with Blackstock since their split, but she made some candid remarks on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast in March. She touched on the challenges of co-parenting and highlighted the double standards working moms face compared to working dads.

“There’s a lot that I keep in because … co-parenting is fun,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, he couldn’t come because this,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool.’ Do you think I just leave and just sit in the park all day?”

Public Support for Her Family Priorities

Clarkson’s decision to prioritize her children during this difficult time reflects her commitment to family. As she focuses on supporting her kids and their father, her fans have expressed their understanding and support, showing that family will always come first for the Since U Been Gone singer.
