A Kentucky woman was arrested at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, after security found illegal drugs in her bag during a routine check. Brandi Asher, 37, was detained on May 20 when she attempted to enter the theme park, but her visit took a sudden turn when her bag was flagged during the security screening.
The Discovery of Drugs
Asher, who was visiting Walt Disney World with her family, was stopped at the ticketing center after a security officer found a suspicious item in her bag.
According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, the officer discovered a small tin can that, upon shaking, produced no sound. Upon opening it, the officer allegedly found a long white cylinder resembling a pen, along with two small plastic baggies containing a white substance.
Asher reportedly explained to the officer that the items were “goodies” for headaches. However, when a field test was conducted, the substances tested positive for methamphetamine.
Asher’s Response to the Discovery
The affidavit claims that Asher became visibly nervous after the discovery and began shaking. When the officer told her he could not dispose of the substances, Asher allegedly attempted to hide the methamphetamine by trying to put it in her pockets. She was then instructed to return the items to the tin can.
A sheriff’s deputy later arrived at the scene and confirmed that the substances were methamphetamine. The deputy also identified a hollow tube in the bag, which was allegedly used to snort the meth. The total amount of meth found was approximately 1.5 grams.
Asher’s Account and Arrest
Following her arrest, Asher reportedly told the deputy that a stranger had approached her at the hotel where she was staying with her family and offered her the meth.
She claimed she took the drugs but did not intend to bring them to Walt Disney World. Asher also admitted that she had not told her husband about the meth and that she believed she had placed it in a different bag.
Asher was escorted to the park’s security office, where she was issued a trespass warning. She was then handcuffed and taken into custody.
Legal Consequences
Asher was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and booked into custody. She was later released after posting a $5,000 bond. Asher’s next legal steps will involve defending against the charges in court.
