Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain behind bars after a federal judge once again denied his request for bail. The court ruled that Diddy, who has been in custody since September 2024, poses a risk of fleeing or endangering the community, despite his legal team offering a $50 million bond.
Diddy’s Bail Request Denied Again
On Monday, August 4, a New York federal judge officially denied Diddy’s fifth attempt to be released from Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center. The ruling comes as part of his ongoing legal battle following his conviction on July 2 for the charge of “transportation to engage in prostitution.”
In the court documents reviewed by PEOPLE, Judge Arun Subramanian said that the court must have “clear and convincing evidence” that the defendant won’t flee or harm the community. Unfortunately for Diddy, the judge found that he still posed a “risk of flight or danger,” and therefore could not be granted bail.
Why the Judge Said No
Judge Subramanian explained that bail could only be granted in “exceptional” situations—especially when the person doesn’t pose any threat and may have serious health issues that can’t be managed in jail. However, the court concluded that Diddy didn’t meet these conditions.
According to the judge, Diddy failed to prove that he had special circumstances that would allow him to be released before sentencing. This included the absence of any medical issues or personal situations serious enough to warrant an exception.
Support from Ex-Girlfriend Didn’t Sway the Court
Interestingly, this ruling came just a few days after Diddy’s ex-girlfriend, Virginia “Gina” Huynh—who was referred to as “Victim-3” in the indictment—publicly asked the judge to let him out on bail.
In a heartfelt letter, Huynh identified herself by name for the first time and urged the court to allow Diddy to go home under supervision so he could continue caring for his family and handling his personal responsibilities. However, her statement did not change the court’s decision.
Previous Bail Attempts and Charges
This is not Diddy’s first failed attempt at securing bail. He was denied three times before his trial even began in May 2025. After his trial ended in early July, he was also denied immediate release—even though he was found not guilty of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
His legal team argued that his age (55) and ability to meet strict bail conditions should allow him to return home. They also offered an enormous $50 million bond. Still, the court held firm, emphasizing the seriousness of the conviction and the potential risks if Diddy were released.
What Happens Next
Diddy is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3, 2025. The charge he was convicted of—transportation to engage in prostitution—can carry a prison term of up to 20 years. By the time of sentencing, he will have already spent over a year in custody, which will count toward his final sentence.
So far, the court has shown no indication that it will reconsider any of the bail requests unless new and extraordinary information comes to light.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal troubles continue as his fifth bid for bail has been denied, with the court making it clear that public safety and the risk of escape remain serious concerns.
Despite support from a former girlfriend and his legal team’s high-dollar bond offer, the judge ruled that no special conditions were met to justify his release. As Diddy remains in jail awaiting his October sentencing, the world will be watching to see what comes next in this high-profile case.
