George Lopez, the beloved comedian and lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan, is speaking out about what he claims is a social media ban by the team. The alleged block followed Lopez’s outspoken criticism of the Dodgers for their lack of response to the controversial ICE raids affecting immigrant families in their home city.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at The Hollywood Reporter and Social Impact Fund’s 2025 Social Impact Summit, Lopez, 64, shared his feelings about the alleged social media block, calling it “hurtful.”
The comedian, who has long used his platform to advocate for Latino communities, expressed frustration that his efforts to raise awareness about important social issues led to this fallout with the team.
Lopez’s Public Criticism of the Dodgers
Lopez’s criticism of the Dodgers began after he publicly called on the team to support immigrants and the Latino community in Los Angeles, particularly in the wake of the ICE raids that have caused significant disruption in the area. The comedian has consistently voiced his outrage over the raids, which target immigrant families and have been seen as part of a broader, more divisive political climate.
On July 12, Lopez posted a video to Instagram, showing him dancing with the caption: “POV: You just got blocked by the Dodgers.”
In the video, Lopez called out the team for their silence on issues affecting the local Latino population, writing, “The Dodgers blocked me on social media for my criticism of the team, so they’ll take a stand on me, but not on the treatment of the families who called Chavez Ravine home before they decided to build a baseball stadium where they lived and where their families called home.”
The Chavez Ravine Controversy
Lopez’s comments tie into the long-standing controversy surrounding the construction of Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine. In the 1950s, Mexican-American residents and other minorities were forcibly displaced to make way for the stadium, even though the land was initially meant for affordable housing.
Lopez highlighted this painful history in his post, saying, “If anyone doesn’t belong, it’s the Dodgers.”
Lopez also pointed out the team’s lack of response to the ongoing struggles of immigrant families, saying, “Also no comment from the [team’s] owners. What’s happening every day to the families of the people who are being treated like they don’t belong.”
The Dodgers’ Response
While the Dodgers have not commented directly on Lopez’s criticism regarding the ICE raids, they did release a statement on June 21, announcing a $1 million pledge to support immigrant families impacted by recent events in the region.
Stan Kasten, the President & CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers, said, “What’s happening in Los Angeles has reverberated among thousands upon thousands of people, and we have heard the calls for us to take a leading role on behalf of those affected.”
The Dodgers, according to Kasten, have committed resources to help support and uplift the immigrant communities of Greater Los Angeles, but this statement did not address Lopez’s specific concerns or the accusations of a social media block.

Lopez’s alleged social media ban by the Dodgers comes as a blow to his personal connection to the team. As someone who has been a passionate fan for years, the comedian expressed disappointment that his advocacy for immigrant rights has led to a rift with the franchise.
Despite the hurt feelings, Lopez’s commitment to speaking out on social justice issues remains unwavering.
