Chargers LB Denzel Perryman Arrested on Multiple Weapons Violations Allegations

Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman is facing felony charges after being arrested late Friday night on allegations of multiple weapons violations.

The 10-year NFL veteran was booked at the Los Angeles County Jail shortly after 10 p.m., with a court date scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to police.

Arrest Details and Allegations

Perryman was initially stopped for vehicle code violations, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). However, during the stop, officers reportedly discovered five firearms in Perryman’s vehicle, including two assault-style rifles.

The investigation did not clarify whether Perryman was heading to a gun range, as some reports, including TMZ, have suggested.

Statement from Perryman’s Agent

In response to the arrest, Perryman’s agent, Ron Butler, issued a statement emphasizing that Perryman intends to cooperate fully with authorities to resolve the matter. “Denzel is a respected veteran in the NFL and a dedicated father, teammate, and professional,” Butler said.

“While we do not take this situation lightly, we remain confident that the matter will be resolved fairly and in accordance with the law.” The statement concluded by stating that they would not provide further comment out of respect for the process and those involved.

Perryman’s Career and Recent Contract

Perryman, who signed a one-year contract with the Chargers in March, is entering his eighth season with the franchise. Last season, he started 11 games, recording 55 tackles and two tackles for loss.

Throughout his 10-year career in the NFL, including stints with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans, Perryman has accumulated 717 tackles, 53 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. Notably, in 2021, he earned a Pro Bowl selection after posting 154 tackles.

Perryman’s arrest on weapons-related charges raises questions about his availability for the upcoming NFL season. As legal proceedings unfold, the veteran linebacker’s future with the Chargers and his standing in the NFL will be closely monitored.
