A 19-year-old man from Texarkana, Texas, is facing serious charges after allegedly using a sword to attack another man during an argument, severely mutilating the victim’s hand and face. In a bizarre turn, the teen reportedly laughed about the attack and later blamed a “dog” for the brutal assault.
The Attack
The incident took place on July 23 at a house on Lumpkin Street in Texarkana. Deroyce Brown, 19, has been charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking the victim during a heated argument.
According to police reports and Brown’s own statements during a police interview, he used a sword to hack off the victim’s hand and mutilate his face.
“I cut his motherf—ing hand off,” Brown reportedly told police, describing the gruesome attack. He went on to detail how he plunged the sword into the victim’s face and eye, claiming the victim was “screaming like a b—” as he did so. Brown further described how he also stabbed the victim’s shoulder.
The Events Leading Up to the Attack
Brown and the victim had reportedly been drinking and arguing over an item Brown believed had been taken from him. A witness who was present at the scene told authorities that he heard Brown arguing with the victim and later woke up to find blood on the floor.
When police arrived, they followed a blood trail from the crime scene to a nearby address on Waterman Street, where Brown was found and arrested.
Brown’s Defense
In his police interview, Brown initially attempted to claim that a “dog” was responsible for the attack. He further stated that he acted in self-defense.
