The latest episode of And Just Like That… has brought in a new face — and it turns out she has a surprising connection to the Sex and the City world.
Ella Stiller, the daughter of Hollywood actors Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, made a fun guest appearance in the July 31 episode of the hit HBO Max show.
Ella Plays Brady’s Pregnant Hookup, Mia
Ella, 23, appears as Mia, a young woman who is pregnant with Brady’s baby. Brady is the son of Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve (David Eigenberg). The episode, titled “Better Than Sex,” starts off with Brady revealing at dinner that he “got someone pregnant.”
This shocks Miranda and Steve, who had no idea Brady was even seeing anyone. But Brady clears that up quickly, saying, “It’s this girl I hooked up with maybe twice.” He doesn’t even know her last name, only that her first name is Mia. He only found out she was pregnant when he saw her and noticed her baby bump.
When Miranda asks if Mia plans to keep the baby or give it up for adoption, Brady doesn’t have a clear answer — which angers Steve, who yells at Brady for ruining his life plans. Brady responds by saying Mia doesn’t want him involved, and walks out.
Miranda Goes to Meet Mia Herself
Still confused and worried, Miranda decides to meet Mia in person. She brings along Charlotte (Kristin Davis) for backup and goes to the salon where Mia works.
Mia, however, says she’s only a part-time shampoo girl, and that her real passion is creating a wellness app. During the awkward salon visit, Mia accidentally passes gas while washing Miranda’s hair and laughs it off, blaming pregnancy symptoms.
Miranda tries to make a conversation by asking if Mia is excited about the baby. Mia replies with a hilarious line: “I was gonna get an abortion till I realized the baby would be a double Libra. It’s gonna be such a f—— vibe.”
Miranda’s True Identity Shocks Mia
Things take a sharp turn when Miranda starts asking too many personal questions. She wants to know if Mia is sure about who the baby’s father is and suggests getting a paternity test.
That’s when Mia figures it out and confronts Miranda. “I’m ‘f— buddy’s mother,’” Miranda admits. Mia gets angry and sprays Miranda with water, calling her out for being sneaky and disrespectful. She also throws in a funny insult: “You have to be a Taurus.”
Miranda tries to explain that she just wants a connection with the baby, but Mia is done. She ends the conversation by saying, “Little boy or girl? You’re so binary.”
Ella’s Real-Life Connection to the SATC Universe
What makes Ella’s role even more special is her family history. Her late grandmother, Anne Meara, played Mary, Steve’s mom, in four episodes of Sex and the City. Anne appeared first in season 5 when Miranda and Steve got Brady baptised, and again in season 6 when she was sick and being cared for.
So, in a sweet full-circle moment, Ella is now playing a character tied to Steve’s storyline — just like her grandmother did years ago.
