The Gilded Age has officially been renewed for a fourth season.

HBO announced the renewal on July 28, two weeks before the season 3 finale airs. This news comes as the show continues to rise in popularity, with its July 20 episode marking a record 4 million U.S. viewers in its Live+3 ratings. This metric tracks viewers who watch a show within three days of its original broadcast.

Record-Breaking Viewership

Season 3 of The Gilded Age has seen a steady rise in ratings, including a 20% growth in viewership over the previous season. The show is also reaching its highest-ever weekly viewership on HBO Max.

The announcement of season 4 was celebrated on the show’s official Instagram account, featuring a video of characters reacting with shock and excitement to the news, set against the show’s theme song.

HBO’s Statement on Season 4

Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of HBO Programming, shared her excitement about the renewal, saying:

Major Changes for Characters in Season 3

Season 3 of The Gilded Age has brought significant changes for many of its characters. Ada (played by Cynthia Nixon) has taken over as head of the household after coming into a fortune, while Agnes (played by Christine Baranski) faces hard times.

The Russell family has also experienced tension, as Bertha (played by Carrie Coon) and George (played by Morgan Spector) clash over their daughter Gladys (played by Taissa Farmiga) marrying the Duke of Buckingham (played by Ben Lamb).
