Muni Long Says Opening for Brandy and Monica Feels Like a Dream Come True

Singer-songwriter Muni Long is living out a childhood fantasy. The 36-year-old Grammy winner will soon be sharing the stage with R&B legends Brandy and Monica as an opening act on their first-ever joint concert series, The Boy Is Mine Tour.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE at Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in New York City, Muni reflected on what this moment means to her younger self — and her lifelong love for 90s R&B.

A Full-Circle Moment for Muni Long

“If you told me when I was younger that I would be opening for Brandy and Monica, I would have been like, ‘Shut up. You’re a liar,’” Muni said with a laugh.

The Florida-born artist shared how the music of the 90s played a huge role in shaping her passion for singing and songwriting. She recalled knowing every word from the iconic Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, despite being too young at the time to understand the lyrics.

Now, she’s joining Brandy, Monica, Kelly Rowland, and 2025 American Idol winner Jamal Roberts on a nationwide tour that’s already creating buzz among fans of classic R&B.

About The Boy Is Mine Tour

The highly anticipated The Boy Is Mine Tour kicks off in Cincinnati on October 16 and will travel to major cities like Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Brooklyn, Detroit, New Orleans, and more, before wrapping up in Houston on December 7.

This tour marks a significant reunion for Brandy and Monica, whose 1998 duet “The Boy Is Mine” became a global hit but also sparked a long-running feud. While rumors of a tour have circulated for years, this is the first time the duo is officially hitting the road together.

Healing Old Wounds and Celebrating the Journey

Speaking about the upcoming tour, Brandy called it “a dream come true” and emphasized how meaningful it is to reunite with Monica after years of personal growth and healing.

“Monica and I coming together again isn’t just about the music — it’s about honoring where we came from and how far we’ve both come,” Brandy said in a press statement.

Monica echoed the sentiment, adding, “This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us. It’s a reminder of the power of respect, strength, and real music.”

Muni Long: From Behind-the-Scenes to Center Stage

While many fans know Muni Long for her breakout solo hit “Hrs and Hrs,” she’s actually been in the music industry for over a decade. Born Priscilla Renea Hamilton, she’s spent the last 15 years writing hit songs for artists like Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Kelly Clarkson.

“See, a lot of people don’t know, but I’ve been writing songs for 15 years, so I know all the girls,” she told PEOPLE. “We know each other. I’m just super honored.”

Muni named Brandy’s “When You Touch Me” and “Almost Doesn’t Count” as two of her all-time favorite tracks, saying the opportunity to share the tour stage with Brandy and Monica is deeply meaningful.

“I’ll Be in the Crowd Too”

While Muni Long is thrilled to be a performer on the tour, she admits she’ll be just as excited as every other fan in the audience.

“I’m gonna be in the audience just like everybody else,” she said. “I’m gonna get off stage, I’m gonna put my sweats on, and I’m coming back to watch.”

Her excitement reflects how much this tour means not just for fans of R&B, but for a new generation of artists inspired by Brandy and Monica’s legacy.

The Boy Is Mine Tour is more than just a concert — it’s a celebration of two legendary careers, mutual respect, and musical healing. And for Muni Long, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to honor her roots while continuing to shine in the spotlight.

As the tour gears up for its October kickoff, one thing’s for sure — fans can expect powerhouse vocals, emotional performances, and the kind of nostalgia only Brandy and Monica can deliver.
