Pekin, Illinois – Allison Salinas, 48, has been charged with solicitation of murder after allegedly attempting to have her husband killed so she could be with her ex-boyfriend and avoid splitting marital assets in a divorce. The former political candidate has been arrested and faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
The Murder-for-Hire Plot
The investigation into Salinas began in 2021 when she allegedly rekindled a long-distance relationship with her ex-boyfriend. According to court documents, Salinas sought to have her husband killed to be with her ex and avoid losing assets in a divorce.
The scheme escalated in November or December 2023, when Salinas allegedly began discussing her desire for her ex to murder her husband.
The ex-boyfriend, who lived in Dallas, Texas, initially tried to discourage the conversation. But Salinas allegedly pushed forward with the idea, even asking if he could find someone else to carry out the murder. After reporting the incident to the police in February 2024, the ex-boyfriend began recording phone calls where Salinas detailed her plans.
Evidence and Attempts to Conceal the Plot
In May 2024, Salinas allegedly sent her ex-boyfriend a picture of her husband with the words “There’s ur pic u need,” and later added, “Just take care of this,” emphasizing her urgency. She also reportedly told him, “Please make him go away,” referencing financial struggles due to her husband’s planned actions.
Salinas later searched online about spousal immunity and discussed various ways to kill her husband, including sneaking shellfish into his food, knowing he was allergic. She reportedly referred to hiring a hitman as finding a “ghost.”
Investigation and Confessions
The investigation gained momentum after Salinas discussed the plan openly with a friend in late 2023, who confirmed that Salinas referred to hiring a “ghost” to kill her husband.
Salinas also admitted during a July 2024 interview with authorities that she had been discussing her husband’s murder with her ex for months. She claimed she was in a bad mental state but denied being unstable.
Salinas acknowledged sending the photo of her husband to her ex and remained silent when confronted with the evidence.
Previous Case and Allegations of Spousal Immunity
In a chilling revelation, Salinas reportedly discussed spousal immunity based on her previous marriage to Delbert Mills, who was convicted of murdering his wife in Texas in 2003. Salinas said Mills had pushed her to marry him quickly after the murder to prevent her from testifying against him.
Next Steps
Salinas is currently in jail after a detention hearing and is facing serious charges in connection with the murder-for-hire plot. Her next court appearance is yet to be scheduled.
