A 21-year-old woman, Aliyah Evans, was arrested at Miami International Airport earlier this month after allegedly claiming to have a bomb in her carry-on bag.
The disturbing incident took place on July 1, 2025, at around 5:51 a.m. and led to a temporary evacuation of some passengers and serious disruption at the airport.
Evans now faces serious charges, including felony false reporting about a bomb or explosive and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
The Incident at Miami International Airport
According to police reports from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Evans approached the JetBlue ticket counter and told nearby passengers she had a bomb in her carry-on luggage. Witnesses described Evans holding a cellphone in her hand, which showed what appeared to be a clock timer.
She allegedly told people around her, “I need children and women to leave and for men to stay.” This raised immediate alarm among the people nearby.
Evans then left the suspicious bag on the floor in front of the counter and tried to move through the airport, heading toward Checkpoint E. The situation caught the attention of TSA staff and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents who quickly responded to the scene and detained Evans.
Evans’ Erratic Behavior and Arrest
When law enforcement arrived, they found Evans acting erratically. According to reports, she was yelling and screaming, making it difficult for authorities to obtain basic information from her.
Despite her alarming behavior, a search of her bag and her person, conducted by a bomb squad and explosives detection K-9, revealed no evidence of a bomb.
Disruption at the Airport
Aside from the bomb threat, Evans was also reported to have knocked over lane extenders at the airport, causing further disruption and panic. This added to the delays as passengers and airport employees were forced to evacuate and wait while authorities cleared the area and processed her.
Legal Consequences and Court Appearance
Evans was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She invoked her right to remain silent during questioning. After posting a bond of $150, she was released from custody. Evans is scheduled for her arraignment on July 31, 2025, where she will face the charges against her.
Additionally, Circuit Judge Ricker Wolfson has ordered that she is not allowed to go to Miami International Airport as part of her release conditions.
This alarming incident at one of Florida’s busiest airports serves as a reminder of the chaos and potential danger that bomb threats can cause. While no explosive device was found, the disruption and panic caused by Evans’ actions resulted in delays and unnecessary fear.
