San Antonio, TX – Charles V. Byrd, a 49-year-old man from Texas, has been arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in connection to the alleged murder of his wife, Angela Byrd.
The disturbing case unfolded after authorities discovered Angela Byrd’s body in their home, where it is believed she had been dead for over a month.
The Discovery of the Body
The case began on Sunday morning when relatives of Angela Byrd expressed concern over her whereabouts. The relative contacted authorities after hearing disturbing comments from Charles Byrd, suggesting that he may have killed his wife.
Deputies responded to the couple’s home in the 22100 block of Pleasanton Road, where they quickly detected a strong odor of decomposition.
Upon entering the home, deputies found a body, believed to be Angela Byrd, wrapped in plastic. The body’s discovery led investigators to suspect homicide, but they are awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
Byrd’s Alleged Confession
Charles Byrd was initially elusive, evading capture for a short period, but was eventually located in a different home, approximately a mile from the crime scene. A SWAT team executed a search warrant, and Byrd was taken into custody.
During an interview with detectives, Byrd allegedly described a physical confrontation with his wife on June 16, which he claimed led to her death. He admitted that for the next 32 days, he lived in the home with Angela Byrd’s body, reportedly taking measures to mask the odor and attempting to explain the smell to family members.
Shocking details came to light when Byrd allegedly made a flippant comment during the interview. He stated, “Go big or go home,” apparently referring to his first-time crime and the violence surrounding his wife’s death.
According to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, Byrd’s nonchalant demeanor during the investigation was “very matter-of-fact,” and the comment “shocked” the detectives.
Legal Proceedings
Charles Byrd is currently held in the Bexar County Jail without bond. Although initially charged with tampering with evidence, Sheriff Salazar stated that Byrd is likely facing murder charges once the autopsy results are finalized.
Authorities are also looking into the involvement of several other individuals, but details about any additional arrests have not been released.

The case has left the San Antonio community in disbelief, especially given the chilling nature of the crime. Authorities are continuing their investigation as they prepare for Byrd’s first court appearance, which is yet to be scheduled.
