A Florida man and his sister have been arrested for their involvement in a brutal murder that authorities say was carried out as “retaliation” following a family dispute. The victim, Steven Black, was shot and killed outside a Fort Lauderdale convenience store in what police describe as an execution-style killing.
The Fatal Shooting
On March 13, 2022, officers responded to Tony’s Market on Northwest 22nd Road after 911 calls reported a shooting. Witnesses stated that a man approached Black, who was speaking with others outside the store, and shot him multiple times.
The suspect then ran to a car, a Nissan Altima, which sped off at high speed. The victim, identified as Steven Black, was later pronounced dead from his gunshot wounds.
Surveillance footage from the store showed a man wearing black clothing and a hood approach Black and shoot him before fleeing the scene. The investigation quickly led authorities to the Pollock siblings, Warren and Wanisha Pollock, who were allegedly involved in the crime.
The Motivation for the Murder
The shooting of Black was not random. Investigators found that the murder was connected to an earlier incident involving Black. On the same day as the shooting, Black had been involved in a violent altercation in Lauderhill, Florida.
He allegedly punched a man in the face, causing serious bodily harm during a dispute over a child’s custody situation. This incident escalated tensions between Black’s family and the family of the man he punched, ultimately leading to the shooting hours later.
Investigators pieced together that the Pollock siblings were looking for Black throughout the day leading up to the murder. Surveillance footage showed the Nissan Altima driving by Tony’s Market more than a dozen times. Minutes before the murder, the car parked near the store, perfectly positioned for a quick getaway.
The Arrests of Warren and Wanisha Pollock
Warren Pollock, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder and is accused of firing the fatal shots. His sister, Wanisha Pollock, 29, has been charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly helping with the getaway. Authorities discovered that she was the registered owner of the Nissan Altima used in the crime.
Further investigation revealed that Wanisha Pollock had extensive phone contact with key individuals involved in the dispute between Black and the victim of the earlier battery.
Cellphone records showed that she was in communication with the stepson of the man Black had assaulted shortly after the altercation and leading up to the murder. Police also found that Warren Pollock’s phone was near the scene of the crime just before and after the shooting.
Additional Evidence and Previous Crimes
Authorities also uncovered a connection between the Pollock siblings and previous criminal activity. The gun used in the murder had been linked to armed robberies in Miami Beach, committed just days after the shooting. Investigators were able to trace the weapon to a man who had ties to Warren Pollock.
On July 10, 2023, Wanisha Pollock was arrested and later posted a $20,000 bond. She is set to be arraigned on August 11, 2023. Warren Pollock was arrested on July 8, 2023, in Augusta, Georgia, by U.S. Marshals and is being held by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
A Tragic Family Feud
This case highlights the tragic consequences of escalating family tensions and the lengths some will go to for “retaliation.” The Pollock siblings now face serious charges, and authorities are continuing to investigate their involvement in other criminal activities.
