During an interview with Danielle Robay on the QUESTION EVERYTHING podcast on July 17, 2025, Braun, 44, was asked about the track, which Swift released on her 2022 album Midnights. Braun made it clear that he doesn’t think the song is about his split from Cohen, 38.
He explained, “No, because I talk to Yael every day.” He described his relationship with Cohen as one where they continue to remain very close friends. “My ex-wife is one of my best friends, so me and my ex-wife laugh about that stuff,” Braun added.
He went on to say that the two don’t even refer to each other as “exes,” highlighting their strong bond despite the divorce.
Braun also pointed out that Cohen is “family for life” to him, even after their divorce. He revealed that he has a tattoo on his finger that says “same team,” which signifies their lifelong partnership, especially in their shared role as parents.
Braun clarified, “We say to each other, ‘we’re on the same team for life.’” Regarding the song, Braun confirmed that both he and Cohen never saw it as a personal reflection on their relationship. “She never thought it was about us,” he said.

He said, “The ups and downs of artist life, the Taylor stuff, none of that actually affected me. Losing my marriage affected me.”
