Caitlin Clark, the star guard for the Indiana Fever, will miss this year’s All-Star Weekend due to an injury. Clark, who had been set to compete in both the 3-Point Contest and captain one of the All-Star teams, injured her right groin in the final minute of the Fever’s win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night.
A Big Loss for All-Star Weekend
Clark, a standout in her second season with the Fever, expressed her disappointment on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday, saying she was “sad and disappointed” to pull out of the highly anticipated events.
She was the leading vote-getter from fans, highlighting her importance to the league’s growing popularity. Her success on the court has played a major role in boosting the WNBA’s attendance and TV ratings over the past two seasons.
The Fever had hoped to see Clark lead them through All-Star Weekend, especially in the 3-Point Contest, which she was expected to compete in Friday night.
Fever’s Next Steps
Clark sat out the Fever’s 98-77 loss to New York on Wednesday. Fever coach Stephanie White confirmed that Clark had undergone imaging on her groin injury, but she referred to the results as “good news” without going into further details. White also deferred to the team’s training staff for additional information.
While it’s a disappointing setback for Clark and her fans, the team will continue to monitor her recovery and hopes to have her back on the court soon.
