After dealing Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers find themselves facing another wide receiver dilemma.
This time, it’s veteran pass catcher Jauan Jennings, who has expressed his intention to request a trade unless he can secure a new contract with the team before training camp begins.
Jauan Jennings’ 2024 Performance and Contract Situation
In 2024, Jennings had a standout year, setting career highs with 77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns, especially stepping up in Deebo Samuel’s absence due to injury.
Despite his strong performance, Jennings is scheduled to earn $7.5 million in 2025, the final year of his current contract. Although he’s not expected to hold out during training camp, Jennings plans to request a trade if the 49ers can’t come to terms on a new deal.
Given that the 49ers recently cleared cap space by trading Samuel and considering the injury recovery of fellow starter Brandon Aiyuk, Jennings’ presence is increasingly valuable to the team’s pass-catching unit. Las Vegas Raiders

The Dolphins recently traded Jonnu Smith and may look to replace him with a versatile weapon like Jennings. Although Miami boasts a dynamic receiving duo in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, adding Jennings would provide additional depth and versatility.

The Jets could use a reliable, physical receiver like Jennings, who is known for his blocking ability—a trait valued by offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who previously worked in Detroit. Jennings could step in as a starter, providing Fields with a dependable option in the passing game.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have been aggressive in adding weapons to support Aaron Rodgers, including premium targets like DK Metcalf and Jonnu Smith. However, Jennings might be a more affordable option compared to other high-cost receivers.
His physicality and versatility would fit well in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s scheme, and his experience with high-stakes games would certainly benefit Rodgers. With the Steelers’ recent interest in bolstering their offense, Jennings could be a logical addition.
