Colorado Rockies fans will soon witness a special family legacy as the team selected Ethan Holliday, son of Matt Holliday, with the No. 4 overall pick in the MLB Draft on Sunday.
A Family Legacy Continues
Ethan’s father, Matt Holliday, is a seven-time All-Star and a key figure in Colorado Rockies history. Matt spent his first seven seasons with the Rockies, including his final campaign in 2018. He was drafted by the team in 1998 and played an instrumental role in helping the franchise reach its first World Series in 2007.
With this pick, Ethan becomes the first top-five pick to be drafted by the same team that his father played for, marking a significant moment in both the Holliday family and the Rockies’ history.
Ethan Holliday’s Impressive High School Career
Ethan, a standout infield player from Oklahoma’s Stillwater High School, had an outstanding 2025 season. He was named Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps Oklahoma Player of the Year.
Last season, Ethan boasted a .611 batting average, hit 19 home runs, and recorded 64 RBIs. His stellar performance on the field caught the attention of MLB scouts and earned him a top pick in the draft.

After being selected, Colorado shared an emotional photo of Ethan in a Rockies uniform, holding a purple bat with a pacifier in his mouth, alongside a throwback image of Matt cradling Ethan as a toddler in a purple Rockies shirt.
Reflecting on the moment, Ethan shared, “I had a little bit of a feeling as the days started trickling down — there was a little something inside me that was kind of leaning towards the Rockies… We’re so juiced and so excited for this opportunity.”

Ethan’s brother, Jackson Holliday, currently plays as a second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, furthering the Holliday family’s baseball legacy.
