A Mississippi man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife after a 31-year marriage. Tony Morris, 67, was found guilty of first-degree murder for shooting his estranged wife, Kathleen Morris, 64, during a heated argument on the morning of August 26, 2024.
The tragic incident occurred in the small town of Terry, Mississippi. According to authorities, Tony Morris called 911 to report that he had shot his wife. When Hinds County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found Kathleen Morris dead from a gunshot wound to her upper body. It was later revealed that the couple had been in the process of getting a divorce.
Though no specific details were given for the motive, Hinds County District Attorney Jodi E. Owens II described the shooting as a result of a “single moment of anger,” noting that it ended the couple’s long marriage and took Kathleen’s life.
He emphasized how quickly violence can escalate, even in moments of personal strife, and the importance of creating supportive systems to prevent such outcomes.
Tony Morris was convicted of deliberate design murder and was sentenced to life in prison at the Mississippi Department of Corrections. His conviction serves as a stark reminder of how domestic conflicts, especially during divorce proceedings, can lead to devastating consequences.
