Shocking new details have emerged in the case of two mothers, Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, who were murdered by members of an anti-government group known as “God’s Misfits” in Oklahoma.
Two co-defendants, Paul Grice, 32, and Cora Twombly, 45, have testified against their fellow conspirators, providing gruesome accounts of the killings during the pre-trial stage of the case.
According to Grice and Twombly, the killings were part of a bizarre plan initiated by Tifany Adams, 55, who allegedly began complaining about the custody situation of her grandchildren.
The issue quickly escalated into a violent conspiracy, with Adams asking Grice if he would kill Veronica Butler. Grice testified that he was “bitten by bitterness and hatred,” influenced by Adams’ complaints about Butler’s parenting.
The brutal murders occurred in late March 2024 when Butler and Kelley traveled to rural Oklahoma to pick up Butler’s children, but they would never return. Their bodies were later found in an underground freezer on April 14, 2024.
The plan, as recounted by Grice, involved Adams organizing the murder with a trailer and a freezer. Grice was tasked with killing Veronica, while Adams’ boyfriend, Tad Bert Cullum, 44, was set to “handle” Jilian. The killings were intended to take place inside the trailer.
Twombly’s role, according to her testimony, was to wait outside the trailer for the victims to arrive and then destroy their cellphones. She described the crime scene as more chaotic than anticipated, with one of the victims being chased, and Grice pleading for help as he committed the murders.
Grice admitted to killing Veronica with a hammer and Jilian with a knife, but he claimed he was “set up” to bear the sole responsibility for the deaths. Twombly described Adams’ reaction to the murders, recalling, “It was the most evil laugh I ever heard.”
The ongoing pre-trial hearings in this case continue to reveal disturbing and chilling details about the murders and the conspiracy behind them.
