Kelly Clarkson is reportedly reflecting on the future of her NBC talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, as she contemplates the demanding nature of her work schedule.
A source shared with PEOPLE that the 43-year-old singer is considering making adjustments to her career path after more than 1,000 episodes of the popular daytime show.
Balancing Career and Family Life
Since The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in September 2019, Clarkson has balanced her role as a talk show host with raising her children.
She shares son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 9, and daughter River Rose, 10, with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The couple’s divorce, finalized in 2022, led Clarkson to prioritize a better work-life balance.
“After her divorce, she wanted to focus on balance and not burnout,” the source explained. Clarkson’s desire for stability and family time while maintaining her career reflects her ongoing efforts to avoid overwhelming work demands.
A Desire to Return to Music
Though Clarkson enjoys the stability the talk show provides, she remains passionate about music. The source revealed, “She very much loves music though and would love to create new music.” Clarkson’s latest release, “Where Have You Been,” came out in May through her independent label, High Road Records.
The demands of her daytime TV career, however, are taking their toll. “Daytime TV is still demanding,” the source shared, hinting that Clarkson might explore a career shift when her contract with NBC concludes next year.
Uncertainty About the Future
While Clarkson is still weighing her options, the source emphasized that she has time to decide what’s best for her family and career. “She was never one to rush into things,” they said.
Despite the uncertainty, Clarkson’s show has been a success, winning 22 Emmys over the years, including multiple awards for Clarkson as Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.
Current Projects and Upcoming Plans
As The Kelly Clarkson Show is on summer hiatus, Clarkson has been focusing on other ventures, including preparing for her Studio Sessions residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which is set to begin on July 11. However, the singer was forced to cancel her first two shows due to laryngitis.
She took to Instagram to reassure fans, saying that prep and rehearsals had taken a toll on her voice but that she was taking time to rest before delivering the best performances for her audience.
“I want the shows to be perfect for y’all,” Clarkson wrote. “The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong. I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.”
