Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known for his skills on the football field, but recently, his trainer Bobby Stroupe fired back after a Kansas City radio host criticized Mahomes’ appearance in a July 4 photo.
What Happened?
The drama started when Kevin Kietzman, a radio host at KCMO, called Mahomes “fat” and an “embarrassment” after seeing a shirtless image of the quarterback. The comments didn’t sit well with Mahomes’s trainer, Bobby Stroupe.
Bobby Stroupe’s Response
Stroupe didn’t hold back in a now-deleted Twitter post. He told Kietzman, “Send me your location”, and went on to challenge the radio host’s understanding of what it really takes to be in shape.
Stroupe added, “If you want to see what in shape is — go make it through a practice at [training camp] or run hurry-up offense scrambling back to back to back plays.” He also pointed out that performance is more important than looks, saying, “You don’t have a clue what it takes.”
Why Stroupe’s Comments Matter
Stroupe’s comments highlight something important: Mahomes’s success isn’t about his body type, but about his ability to perform.
Mahomes has proven himself year after year as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, with five Super Bowl appearances and two AFC Championship overtime losses under his belt. His skills on the field make him one of the best quarterbacks in football history — looks don’t matter.
Is Being “Fat” a Problem in Football?
While Kietzman may have thought Mahomes looked out of shape, Stroupe is right: football is about performance, not appearance. In fact, athletes who are slightly heavier or thicker may actually be less likely to get hurt.
The extra muscle or weight acts like natural armor, helping protect players when they take hits from larger opponents.
Mahomes Will Be Just Fine
The truth is, Mahomes will be fine, regardless of his appearance. He has always delivered great performances and will continue to do so. His success speaks for itself, and he’s already one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game.
