A 25-year-old man from New Mexico has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s father to death on June 27. The incident occurred outside the victim’s home on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation in Shiprock.
What Happened?
Armondo Paul is accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s father in the neck after an argument. According to FBI agents, Paul had gone to the victim’s home and initially spoke with his ex-girlfriend.
She did not want to talk to him, but reluctantly went outside to avoid further conflict. She later told police that Paul had been abusive in their past relationship and that she had broken up with him.
Paul reportedly went back to his mother’s house after speaking with his ex-girlfriend. But later, he decided to return to the home and shut off the power to “elicit a response.”
When the victim and his daughter went back inside, Paul became enraged and kicked in the door. An altercation followed, and Paul allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck with a kitchen knife.
What Happened After the Stabbing?
After stabbing the victim, Paul reportedly saw the man laying in the driveway with blood pouring out of his neck. Paul then went back into the house, saw his ex-girlfriend holding a baby, and then ran back outside. He fled the scene when he heard sirens, and was later arrested by authorities.
Charges and Investigation
Paul has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently in federal custody. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, and Paul is scheduled for a future court appearance. He has been assigned a public defender.
