A Florida man has allegedly confessed to ambushing a woman in broad daylight, raping her after dragging her to an underpass, and using a screwdriver to threaten her, authorities say.
Daysnel Hernandez, 41, was arrested and charged with multiple serious offenses, including attempted murder, armed kidnapping, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault in connection with the disturbing attack.
The Attack in Miami-Dade County
On Thursday, around 10:30 a.m., Hernandez allegedly approached the woman in a parking lot near 777 NW 72nd Ave. in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Police say he struck her over the head with a rock before using a screwdriver to hold her hostage, forcing her to follow him.
He allegedly dragged the woman to an underpass, where the sexual assault occurred. During the assault, Hernandez reportedly covered the woman’s mouth to silence her, while threatening her with the screwdriver.
According to police reports, the victim pleaded with Hernandez, begging him not to kill her, fearing for her life as he punched her multiple times. Despite her attempts to break free, Hernandez allegedly overpowered her and continued the attack.
Hernandez’s Confession
Daysnel Hernandez was initially taken into custody after an assault on a female hotel worker in Doral on Friday, and police later linked him to the earlier incident.
After being read his Miranda rights, Hernandez allegedly confessed to raping the woman in Miami-Dade County. Investigators say he corroborated the victim’s statements about the attack during his police interview.
Additional Charges and Another Assault
Hernandez is also facing charges related to a second assault on Friday, where he reportedly physically attacked a female hotel employee at the Doral Inn & Suites in Doral. The specifics of the second attack have not been fully disclosed, but authorities are treating both incidents as serious crimes.
The charges against Hernandez include attempted second-degree murder, armed kidnapping, sexual battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and armed burglary. He is being held without bond as the investigation into both assaults continues.
Community Reactions and Police Investigation
Local police have expressed concern about the violent nature of these attacks and are working to provide justice for the victims. The details surrounding the second attack on the hotel worker are still being investigated, but authorities have not released further information.
Hernandez’s arrest and confession have brought attention to the ongoing issue of violence in the community. Both victims have been traumatized by the violent acts, and authorities are focused on providing support to them during this difficult time.
