Tulsa, OK – A woman was fatally shot by a police officer late Thursday evening after the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) said she charged at officers holding a large butcher knife.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. near South 189th East Avenue and East 1st Street, following a domestic dispute reported by concerned neighbors.
Domestic Dispute Leads to Police Response
The call to authorities came from neighbors who reported a disturbance, saying they had witnessed an argument and saw knives involved in the altercation.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers first spoke with the neighbors who had made the call. TPD then approached the home where the argument was taking place and knocked on the door.
Fatal Confrontation with Officer
According to TPD, when the officers knocked, an unclothed woman suddenly ran toward them while holding a large butcher knife. Fearing for their safety, one officer fired at the woman, fatally wounding her. Despite administering first aid, the woman was pronounced dead due to her injuries.
Investigation Underway
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and officers have taken several witnesses to the detective division for questioning. TPD confirmed that no one else was injured during the altercation, and the woman was the only person hurt.
Possible Influence of Drugs and Alcohol
Neighbors reported that they suspected drugs and alcohol may have been involved in the dispute, but this will not be confirmed until the Medical Examiner completes their toxicology report.
Identity of the Woman Not Released
At this time, the identity of the woman has not been released. FOX23 will provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available.
