A Florida man, Courtney Anderson, 25, has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend 12 times in front of their two young children. The attack occurred outside the woman’s home in broad daylight, and surveillance footage captured the entire horrifying incident.
Anderson then drove himself to the hospital for a wound on his hand, while the victim was left critically injured and had to run for help.
The Attack
The attack took place on Friday when Anderson allegedly ambushed his former girlfriend as she was walking with their two children, aged 3 and 5, towards the front door of her home.
According to police, Anderson approached the woman and, in view of the children and surveillance cameras, stabbed her multiple times in the head and neck. Anderson is heard saying, “What’s up, b—?” before launching his brutal assault.
The woman collapsed to the ground, but Anderson continued the attack, stabbing her seven more times. As she attempted to get back up, her 5-year-old child rushed to her side.
Anderson allegedly stabbed her four more times, including a wound to her neck. As the woman screamed and fled toward a neighbor’s house for safety, Anderson reportedly attempted to chase her down again before fleeing the scene.
Victim’s Condition and Anderson’s Actions
The victim was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition, where she received treatment for her injuries. Meanwhile, Anderson drove himself to JFK Medical Center, claiming a “slice injury” to his hand. Surveillance footage and evidence collected at the hospital helped connect him to the violent attack.
Police later determined that Anderson’s clothing matched that of the man seen in the surveillance footage. Furthermore, a blood-like substance was found on the steering wheel of the car Anderson used to drive to the hospital.
Anderson’s History and Motive
During questioning, Anderson admitted to having been arrested in February for domestic battery by strangulation against the same woman, resulting in a restraining order that prohibited him from having contact with her.
He told investigators that he had been upset because he believed his ex-girlfriend had started a new relationship with another man and had been harassing him on Facebook.
Anderson also claimed he didn’t remember the details of the attack, though surveillance footage showed his vehicle following the victim’s in the moments before the stabbing.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Anderson was charged with attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and violation of a no-contact order. He remains in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail without bail, and his next court date is scheduled for July 28.
