Kelly Rowland is thrilled about her latest role as a coach on The Voice UK. On Monday, June 30, the 44-year-old singer gave fans a sneak peek into her time on set, sharing a fun behind-the-scenes video on her Instagram Stories.
“New gig, who dis…” she jokingly captioned a clip of her walking past a row of empty coaches’ chairs, with the crew chatting in the background. She also tagged the official The Voice UK account at the bottom of the video, hinting at her new exciting role on the show.
Kelly Joins The Voice UK for Season 14
Season 14 of The Voice UK is underway, and Rowland is among the celebrity coaches joining the show. The announcement came earlier in June when the show revealed its latest lineup of mentors.
The social media post teasing Rowland’s addition cleverly referenced Destiny’s Child’s iconic 2001 track, “Bootylicious,” with the playful caption:
“Kelly… can you handle this? 😏” alongside a picture of Rowland and her fellow coaches — legendary singer Tom Jones, will.i.am, and British pop stars Tom Fletcher & Danny Jones from McFly.
This announcement made waves with fans excited to see Rowland, known for her stunning vocal talent, joining such an esteemed panel.
Rowland’s Fun Instagram Video
In addition to the announcement post, Rowland shared an Instagram Reels video on her Stories, where she and her fellow coaches got playful. The clip, inspired by Mean Girls, showed McFly members whispering in surprise to each other, revealing Rowland’s involvement. The video ended with Rowland walking off with a funny expression before flashing a bright smile.
The playful clip was set to Missy Elliott’s “Pass That Dutch,” with Rowland channeling her inner Mean Girls vibe as she had the coaches share the juicy gossip in a lighthearted way.
Kelly Rowland’s Previous Role in British Singing Competitions
This isn’t Rowland’s first time lending her expertise to a singing competition in the UK. She played a pivotal role in forming Little Mix on The X Factor UK, using her experience and instincts from her Destiny’s Child days to help the group find their magic.
Rowland shared her excitement and instinctive understanding of the chemistry between the band members in a 2022 interview, highlighting how she felt their bond from the very beginning.
Aside from her work in the UK, Rowland has also appeared on The X Factor US, The Voice AU, and is now taking on a new role as a guest judge on Netflix’s Building the Band.
Rowland’s Upcoming Projects
In addition to her role on The Voice UK, Rowland is set to appear as a guest judge on Building the Band, a unique music competition where contestants will form a band without ever seeing each other.
Hosted by Backstreet Boys singer AJ McLean, with former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger serving as a mentor, the series will also feature Liam Payne in his final project before his passing in October 2022. Building the Band premieres on Netflix on July 9, 2025.
Rowland, who fondly remembered Payne as “absolutely hilarious,” spoke highly of their time together working on the show in a PEOPLE interview from August 2024.
