Florida Man Arrested After Allegedly Pushing Woman Into Miami River, Leading to Her Death

A 47-year-old man from Florida, William Youmans Jr., is in police custody after he allegedly pushed a woman into the Miami River during a heated argument, which led to her death a few days later.

Youmans is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge, and authorities are considering upgrading the charge after the victim passed away.

The Incident and Arrest

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning near the SW 1st Street Bridge close to Jose Marti Park in Miami. Youmans and the victim, later identified as 39-year-old Marie Roseme, were arguing intensely when the situation escalated.

A witness who saw the altercation from across the river reported that the two were throwing objects at each other. At one point, Roseme sat down near the seawall, and that’s when Youmans allegedly approached her and pushed her into the river.

The witness immediately called 911 and observed Youmans until police arrived at the scene. After confirming his identity, Youmans was taken into custody by the police.

Rescue Effort and Tragic Outcome

Miami police rushed to rescue Roseme from the river, and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, Roseme passed away from her injuries on Thursday.

As a result, Youmans is now facing the possibility of more severe charges, as authorities plan to upgrade the attempted murder charge in light of her death.

Youmans’ Erratic Behavior in Custody

After his arrest, Youmans exhibited violent and erratic behavior during questioning. According to the arrest affidavit, he screamed, punched walls, and acted inappropriately during the interview.

Due to his actions, the police ended the interrogation and transferred him to jail. Youmans is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Victim and Suspect Background

The affidavit reveals that Youmans is homeless. A witness who frequently visits Jose Marti Park noted that Roseme was often seen in the park, adding to the sadness of the community over her tragic death.

The case has shocked the local area, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the events leading up to Roseme’s death.
