Rod Stewart had a star-studded lineup of surprise guests during his Legends Slot performance at the iconic Glastonbury Festival on Sunday, June 29.
The 80-year-old rock legend, known for hits like “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” and “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” wowed the crowd with a few of his biggest songs, but the real surprises came when he introduced special guests throughout his set.
A Star-Studded Performance
Stewart kicked off the show with some of his classic hits, but things took an exciting turn when he brought out Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall for a duet of the iconic song “If You Don’t Know Me by Now,” a track famously covered by Simply Red. Hucknall, 65, joined Stewart on stage, adding his smooth vocals to the well-loved classic.
The surprises didn’t stop there. Stewart then introduced Ronnie Wood, 78, his fellow Faces bandmate and Rolling Stones guitarist, to perform the Faces’ hit “Stay With Me” from 1971. The crowd erupted with excitement as Wood joined Stewart on stage, creating a magical moment for fans of both Stewart and the Faces.
Later in the set, Lulu, 76, joined Stewart for a raucous performance of “Hot Legs,” bringing even more energy to the stage.
Stewart’s Heartfelt Introduction of the Legends
Before bringing out Wood and Lulu, Stewart made a heartfelt statement: “Now it brings me real great pleasure to bring on the stage two — what I call — legends, along with me.” The crowd cheered as Stewart warmly hugged Wood, showing the deep bond the two rock icons share.
The surprise performance with Wood was particularly special, considering just two months ago, Faces’ drummer Kenney Jones teased that the band was working on a new album.
It would mark their first in 50 years, with about 11 tracks already recorded at RAK Studios in London. Though Jones mentioned the album might not be out this year, he hinted at a release next year.
A Reunion and Celebration
The performance at Glastonbury comes on the heels of a reunion between Stewart and Wood in January, when the two celebrated Stewart’s 80th birthday together.
The former Faces bandmates were joined by their wives, Sally Wood and Penny Lancaster, for a special night out. Wood shared his excitement on Instagram, calling the celebration a “really fun night.”
Stewart, reflecting on his birthday, posted: “What an incredible journey it’s been — from unforgettable moments on and off the stage to earning some truly special honors along the way. But above all, my greatest joy has always been performing for you.”
The Future of Faces
Stewart’s Glastonbury performance also sparked renewed excitement for Faces fans, with Jones hinting at the possibility of new music from the legendary band. The last album from Faces was released in 1973, so the upcoming LP, if released, would mark an exciting new chapter for the group.
A Night to Remember
Rod Stewart’s Glastonbury performance was a night filled with nostalgia, incredible music, and surprise appearances by some of rock’s most legendary figures. With his upcoming projects and the potential for a Faces reunion album, the future is looking bright for Stewart and his musical journey.
