In a tragic incident in Bryant, Arkansas, a man has been arrested after allegedly gunning down his sister and parents while three children were present in the house. Jarrod Mitchell, 34, was arrested hours after the bodies of his sister and parents were found in their home on Sunday morning.
According to the Bryant Police Department, a man arrived at the house around 7:30 a.m. after returning from work and found his wife and her parents dead from gunshot wounds.
The three children who were inside the home at the time were unharmed. Police later confirmed the identities of the deceased as Mitchell’s sister and parents, but they have not yet released their names.
The Bryant Police stated that they found no signs of forced entry into the home, and after investigating the situation, they arrested Jarrod Mitchell on three counts of first-degree murder. Mitchell is being held without bail at the Saline County Detention Facility.
Mitchell has a criminal history, including nonviolent drug-related charges and a history of mental health issues. Court records indicate that he was committed to a detox facility in 2017, after reportedly threatening his family with knives. In that instance, Mitchell’s grandparents signed the petition for his commitment, stating concerns about his drug addiction and homicidal tendencies.
While police have not released a motive for the alleged triple murder, it is believed that Mitchell had been struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues for several years. He is currently being held on a $2 million bond and is expected to appear in court on August 5.
The investigation is ongoing, and the community is left grappling with the horrific loss of life. The tragedy has left many questions unanswered, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
