The Fatal Crash
According to authorities, a police officer first spotted a Holden Commodore driving erratically with an unauthorized license plate. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but another officer began pursuing the car.
The driver of the Commodore then swerved into the wrong side of the road, where it collided head-on with a Hyundai sedan, according to New South Wales Police.
The crash killed the 55-year-old woman in the Hyundai instantly. Her 28-year-old pregnant daughter, who was driving the vehicle, suffered leg injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Sadly, the woman, who was 25 weeks pregnant, later learned she had lost her unborn baby.
Fleeing the Scene
While two passengers in the Commodore, aged 15 and 17, sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital, the driver and the front passenger of the car fled the scene before police arrived.
Police believe the driver was a male in his late teens, with an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, and the front passenger was a 17-year-old girl.
