Brett Young Updates “In Case You Didn’t Know” with Female Perspective

Brett Young’s life took a big turn after marriage and having kids. Now 44, he realized those life changes made him rethink his songwriting. Wanting more than lullabies, he pushed himself creatively on his new album 2.0, released June 20, 2025.

A key highlight is the updated version of his No. 1 hit “In Case You Didn’t Know,” now featuring a female singer’s side of the story.

Why Fatherhood Changed His Songs

Brett says that after marriage and fatherhood, he noticed his songs were becoming lullabies. To keep growing, he had to dig deeper or tell someone else’s story. He started experimenting on his 2023 album Across the Sheets, but fully embraced the change on 2.0, aiming to mix his experiences with others’ viewpoints.

Adding a Woman’s Voice to the Hit

On In Case You Didn’t Know 2.0, Brett brings in Hannah McFarland to give a woman’s view. He jokes that guys often don’t say how they feel but do show it in other ways. Hannah wrote and sang those parts, creating balance between male and female perspectives. This duet feels fresh and honest.

Family Tales in New Songs

The album also includes heartfelt songs like “Full House,” co-written with Ross Copperman and Jon Nite. This song shares Brett’s emotion about his daughter Rowan, now 3½.

He and his wife Taylor had planned for four kids, but after Rowan, they felt complete with two daughters—Presley and Rowan. That sense of family peace shines through.

Another emotional track, “Who I Do It For,” features Lady A and was written with Jon Nite and Kyle Schlienger. It’s about the challenge of being away on tour but doing it for his family. Brett acknowledges the struggle of being separated, hoping his kids will understand why he’s gone sometimes.

On 2.0, Brett Young shows growth as an artist and a dad. By adding a female voice to his biggest hit and sharing personal family stories, he deepens his music’s honesty. From celebrating fatherhood to exploring song structure, this album blends life’s big moments into real, moving songs.
