A Wisconsin teenager, Jayden Adams, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after striking and killing 47-year-old Sunita Balogun with her own car while trying to steal a vehicle in October 2021.
The incident occurred when Adams, who was 13 at the time, and four other teens tried to steal a car from a hotel parking lot. Balogun confronted the group while they were attempting to steal a red Hyundai. Unfortunately, her efforts to stop them ended tragically.
The Crime and Adams’ Admission
Adams and his friends were caught trying to steal a vehicle when Balogun parked her Jeep next to them and got out to stop the crime. After a brief altercation, one of Adams’ friends punched Balogun in the face, causing her to fall to the ground.
Adams then got into her Jeep and kicked the door into her face before running over her head. After the crime, Adams admitted to his friends that he had killed her, saying, “I killed that lady.” Despite the other teenagers witnessing the event, they did not check on Balogun, who was later declared dead at the scene.

Initially, Adams faced several serious felony charges, including first-degree reckless homicide, hit-and-run resulting in death, and vehicle theft.
However, after pleading guilty to second-degree reckless homicide and taking a vehicle without consent, Adams was sentenced to 15 years in prison with an additional 10 years of extended supervision.
