Miley Cyrus recently shared a lighthearted moment with her mother, Tish Cyrus, and her sister, Brandi Cyrus, on their Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast.
The trio opened up about their romantic lives, specifically discussing the age differences between them and their partners.
The conversation led to some fun, self-deprecating humor as they realized they all shared something in common—being “cougars.”
A Shared Dynamic of Age Differences
Miley, 32, is dating Maxx Morando, 26, while her sister Brandi, 38, is in a relationship with Matt Southcombe, 36. Meanwhile, their mother Tish, 58, is married to actor Dominic Purcell, 55. The age gaps in their relationships are significant, and they joked about being “cougars” during the podcast episode released on June 19.
Brandi, known for her sense of humor, brought up the topic, saying, “What does it say about the three of us that, technically, we are all cougars?” Miley chimed in, noting that this said “so many things,” before laughing about whether she could be considered the “landslide” of the group due to her own relationship’s age gap.
Miley’s Perspective on Her Relationship
Miley shared more about her relationship with Maxx, revealing that when she turns 33, he will be 27. She fondly recalled how 27 was a pivotal year for her, saying, “That was such a great year for me.”
She added, “I’m just hoping that, as long as he follows in my footsteps, everything is going to be great.” Miley also reflected on how this was around the time when she began to turn her life around, making the age gap seem even more meaningful to her.
Tish and Brandi’s Views on Age Gaps
Tish, who was previously married to Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and adopted Brandi and Trace, 36, from a past relationship, shared that she hadn’t thought much about being older than her husband, Dominic. However, she was open to discussing the idea with her daughters.
She jokingly asked Brandi whether she and Matt would ever be the same age, as there is just a one-year difference between them. Brandi quickly corrected her, saying that Matt is currently 36, and they wouldn’t ever match up in age. This led to some playful banter between the family members.
Tish also noted that sometimes she and Dominic are only two years apart, even though their age gap is currently three years. Miley added her own age dynamic with Maxx, explaining that sometimes they’re only a couple of days apart, as they share similar birthdays, with only four years separating them.
How Miley and Maxx Make It Work
Miley also joked about the Scorpio bond she shares with Maxx, saying, “He’s a Scorpio [and] so is his grandfather, that’s what makes Maxx just so cool because he can sting.”
She went on to explain that she couldn’t imagine being with someone who didn’t have that “sting” to them, adding, “They would have been toast already.” Miley’s playful remarks showed just how much she enjoys the unique aspects of her relationship with Maxx.

Despite the age difference, Miley has previously expressed how much she and Maxx connect on a deeper level. In a Harper’s Bazaar interview from November 2024, Miley explained that Maxx looks at life differently than she does due to their generation gap.
“He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters,” she reflected. However, Miley also revealed that they have a lot in common, sharing similar views on life and not taking things too seriously.
