Bruce Springsteen’s life is being portrayed in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, but the legendary musician revealed that watching his life unfold on screen wasn’t as stressful for him as it was for actor Jeremy Allen White, who plays him.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen shared his experience with the film’s production, discussing how he and White set boundaries to ensure that Springsteen wouldn’t disrupt filming.

“Give me the look, and I’m on my way home,” Springsteen said, referring to an agreement with White about when his presence on set could be intrusive.

Despite Springsteen’s occasional visits, he acknowledged that it was likely a more challenging experience for White, calling him “very, very tolerant of me” on the days he appeared on set.

Springsteen emphasized that he tried to stay out of the way when particularly personal moments in his life were being depicted. “Some of the most painful days of my life are in the movie,” he admitted.

To respect the actors’ creative freedom, Springsteen would stay home during those tough scenes, ensuring that the actors could fully immerse themselves in their roles. However, he assured that if Scott Cooper, the film’s director, needed him, he was ready to step in.

The film, Deliver Me From Nowhere, which focuses on a pivotal time in Springsteen’s career while recording his iconic 1982 album Nebraska, has garnered a lot of attention.

The trailer, released on June 18, shows Jeremy Allen White performing Born to Run, one of Springsteen’s greatest hits, and sets the stage for the exploration of the challenges Springsteen faced as he balanced the pressures of rising fame with his personal struggles.

The movie delves into how Nebraska was born out of this raw and difficult time in Springsteen’s life, helping shape one of his most enduring works. The biopic also stars Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffman, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz.

Deliver Me From Nowhere will be released in theaters on October 24.
