Wendy Williams’ Cats Gone, Ex-Husband Says Her Guardian Sold Them Without Her Knowing"

In a shocking new lawsuit filed on June 17, Wendy Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, is claiming that Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, “sold” the former talk show host’s beloved rescue cats, Chit Chat and My Way, without her knowledge.

The lawsuit alleges that the cats were taken from Williams, isolating her from “much-needed companionship and emotional support.”

Allegations Against Sabrina Morrissey

Hunter, who claims to be filing the lawsuit on Williams’ behalf, accuses Morrissey of breaching her fiduciary duty by not continuing to pay for the cats’ boarding fees and then selling them.

The lawsuit paints a troubling picture of how the action allegedly impacted Williams, who has been under a legal guardianship since 2022, overseeing both her finances and health. Williams has been living in an assisted-living facility in New York City since 2023.

Williams had previously spoken about the situation in an interview on The Breakfast Club in January, explaining that Morrissey had told her the cats were “gone.” “I said, ‘You mean they are gone gone gone gone gone?’” Williams recalled, confirming that the cats, whom she rescued in 2019, were no longer with her.

A Broader Legal Fight

Hunter’s lawsuit also targets 48 other defendants, including Morrissey, the judge overseeing the guardianship, Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, and others, accusing them of violating Williams’ constitutional rights.

The lawsuit demands a “new impartial guardian,” the unsealing of her case files, and her release from “involuntary confinement.” Additionally, Hunter is seeking $250 million in damages for financial loss, reputational harm, emotional distress, legal expenses, and deprivation of liberty.

Hunter’s claims also include allegations that Williams has been subjected to “unrestrained abuse, maltreatment, and fiscal malfeasance” since her guardianship was imposed due to her dementia diagnosis, which she has since contested.

He also argues that Williams was never given an independent medical evaluation before being placed under guardianship and has since been “overmedicated” and placed under “undue restrictions.”

Guardianship Controversy and Legal Strategy

The lawsuit’s attorney, LaShawn Thomas, acknowledged that Williams is not fully aware of all the evidence supporting the claims. However, Thomas expressed confidence in presenting enough evidence to prove that Williams should not be forced to endure her current guardianship.

“I plan on laying out sufficient evidence to support our claims and ensure that her rights are vindicated and she is made whole financially,” Thomas said in a statement.

The case adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing controversy surrounding Williams’ guardianship.

People have raised questions about her ability to manage her own affairs since the guardianship was first imposed, with Hunter’s legal team claiming that it has caused emotional and financial harm to the former talk show host.

No Response From Morrissey

As of now, Sabrina Morrissey has not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment regarding the lawsuit or the claims about the cats. Wells Fargo, which is also named in the lawsuit, declined to comment.

This lawsuit marks a new chapter in the ongoing legal battles surrounding Wendy Williams’ guardianship and personal life.

With accusations of mistreatment, overmedication, and the sale of her beloved pets, the case continues to draw public attention to the complexities of Williams’ guardianship and the impact it has had on her well-being.
