An Oklahoma woman, Holly Sheppard, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of a 22-day-old infant in 2018, and a subsequent child abuse charge in 2023 after injuring another baby.

A Pattern of Abuse Uncovered
In June 2023, a 2-month-old child was brought to a hospital in Ponca City, Oklahoma, after suffering seizures and internal bleeding. Sheppard, 28, had been babysitting the child and initially called police, but kept changing her story about how the child got injured.
Eventually, Sheppard claimed she had “accidentally tripped” and dropped the baby. The child was later diagnosed with severe injuries consistent with child abuse.

The surviving child from the 2023 incident, who was severely injured by Sheppard, has made “remarkable progress,” and a Facebook account called “Korra’s Journey” has been documenting the child’s recovery.
