A Texas mother is accused of causing the death of her 8-month-old son by allegedly giving him a scalding bath in a fit of frustration after he soiled his diaper.
Jatoria Cleamons, 21, is facing charges of injury to a child and manslaughter following the tragic death of her son, Courtlyn Cleamons, on February 4.
The Incident
Police in Hooks, Texas, responded to a medic assist call at a home on 100 Kennedy Circle where they found Courtlyn being administered CPR by medical responders. Tragically, the infant was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.
The cause of death was later confirmed as thermal injuries (scalding) following an autopsy by the Southwest Institute of Forensics.
Investigation and Arrest Warrant
The investigation revealed that Jatoria Cleamons had allegedly admitted to giving her son a bath with extremely hot water when he soiled his diaper, expressing her frustration. This event reportedly took place roughly two weeks before Courtlyn’s death.
After further questioning, police issued an arrest warrant for Cleamons, but as of Sunday afternoon, she remains at large.
The Hooks Police Department is working closely with Texarkana Texas Police and Bowie County Sheriff’s Office to locate Cleamons, urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
